Some interesting facts from The National Plan for Action on Health Care Disparities (2010-03-23)
Low socioeconomic status. low educational status, environmental conditions such as poor nutrition, are just some of the factors that lead to inadequate health care which leads, in turn, to poor health.
To quote Margaret Chan MD, MPH Director-General of the World Health Organization:
"Health inequity really is a matter of life and death."
Health equity requires valuing everyone equally and making efforts to address the problems that lead to poor health care and poor health.
"The real challenge lies not in debating whether[health] disparities exist, but in developing and implementing strategies to reduce and eliminate them."
